It took me a long time to realize that you can really gamble online. Today I wish I would of never found that out. Playing online poker has been a horrifying experience. Don't get me wrong, for many years I absolutely loved the game and the way it made me feel. Many of you online players believe that playing poker is a game of skill and with all the media about texas holdem that is what everyone (casino's, poker rooms, poker shows ect.) wants you to believe. The government gets a cut of all our money that we lose online and in the casino's. Many states are now making it legal to gamble online for that very reason. Online poker was my main game when I was a problem gambler. I was seeing it advertised on t.v. as a game of skill and not luck. Well, from experience I can tell you that online poker is a game of both: Luck and Skill. Unfortunately, after seven years of practice playing online poker, my skill didn't win me any money. You have to be a very lucky person to come out ahead playing online texas holdem. You also need to know alot about the game to be a winning player.
You also need to take into consideration these facts:
The online poker rooms take a large percentage of your money for them to keep each hand that is dealt. This is called the "rake!"
So for you to be a winner you have to beat the house or others say the rake. Even if you win that hand of poker, you are paying the house and the pot isn't as big as it should be.
There is no absolute way of proving that online poker rooms don't cheat.

This is one of the major disadvantages of online poker! What explains the miracle cards that your opponents always get on the turn and river? Why does the software pause before some hands are dealt? With the doubt of them cheating, makes it extremely hard to get over the normal bad beats someone can have playing poker. There has been news all over the web that a couple major poker rooms have had incidents of cheating! If you still continue to play online poker, then be aware of the places you play at.
2. Playing online poker is very different then playing live poker (physically going and playing at a casino)! For one: You can see if they are cheating you or not. For two: There isn't as many maniacs at the live games. Players play different when they have to look at their opponents. Bluffing isn't as popular at live games then it is playing online poker. People can see each others facial expressions.
For three: Money is more respected at live poker games. Online poker players don't actually get to hold, smell and feel the money they are throwing away. Which makes it so much easier for them to keep rebuying. Four: Online poker players don't need to get all dressed up and drive to the casino to play poker. They just walk to their computers and start losing their money.
So after hearing all the facts of playing online poker, are you ready to quit?
